Contract - Retail Media Exec/Manager - Media Agency - £300 - £325+ per day DOE (likely inside IR35) - 6 months

A Central London based media agency are looking for a retail media specialist to work one of their key clients who operate in the retail space. It's likely they will need someone for an initial 6 months, but there is potential for this to extend or even for permanent opportunities down the line. Channel wise, they are ideally looking for someone that has an established background in both display and search. Display is the key area of focus and where the main gap is within the team, however prior search experience will be highly beneficial as they are aiming for the team to be proficient across both.

*** Fully remote workers cannot be considered for this. You will need to be able to get into the Central London office at least twice a week between Monday - Thursday.

The Job

  • Retail Media Specialist
  • Working on a very well known and respected brand in this space
  • Working across a media mix of both display and search, with a leaning towards display
  • Some key display tasks include: on site media planning, budgeting, negotiate placement preferences with well known retailer/partners, financial tracking/management, identify relevant targeting.
  • Some key search tasks include: planning and booking campaigns, campaign optimisation, monthly/quarterly reporting, working on a citrus search project


  • Good knowledge of retail media and retailers
  • Established media background and have covered display at least but also ideally search
  • Experience with both Criteo and Citrus for both display and search (Citrus wallet helpful)
  • Experience using Prisma to book campaigns
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Proven experience managing budgeting/financials
  • Ideally media planning and activation experience across display/search

Display tasks

  • Tesco on site media planning, translating client brief and budget into an on-site plan
  • Manage pacing vs the annual Joint Business Plan budgeting
  • Identify relevant targeting using the Tesco Integrated Planning Tool which logs historic delivery and performance
  • Populate media plan ('Tesco tracker') to supply to Dunhumby
  • Negotiate with Dunhumby/Tesco, aiming to acquire all placement preferences, find suitable alternatives and overall to demonstrate agency value
  • Manage different combinations of promotion cycles (3/4/6 weeks) and calculate costs accordingly
  • Manage the finance process - sign off statements and PO equivalent from client, booking campaigns onto Prisma
  • Creating an internal Mindshare plan summary to be used for financial tracking
  • Monthly reconciliation of the media plan
  • Stretch: Inputting on quarterly performance review led by retailer (analysis of their data, recommendations for future/test and learn)
  • Stretch: creating new on site opportunities/innovation

Other display skills

  • Understanding/knowledge of Criteo and Citrus display
  • As I mentioned, there is also some Asda activity, but most of this is currently financial management. There is potential to look at how we can develop this further, plus incremental campaigns are planned and delivered using Criteo Display.

Retail Media Search skills

We are in the process of cross training the team to look after search and display across retailers, so it would be helpful to have candidates with experience of Citrus and Criteo search, or as a minimum, search activation experience.

  • Planning, booking and reconciling campaigns - experience with Citrus wallet helpful
  • Day to day search monitoring and optimisation of performance and pacing
  • Monthly and quarterly reporting with media insights
  • Stretch: Involvement in wider Citrus search project to create an approach to Citrus/how we behave in Citrus based on product type (new brand launch/core product/hero product…)
  • Stretch: Holistic on-site strategies based on product type - media mix across search and display
  • Stretch: Engagement and involvement in test and learn plan
