TV/VOD

TV and Video on Demand (VOD) services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney plus and Apple TV saw a surge in numbers due to the COVID-19 pandemic causing an accelerated demand for these platforms.

TV/VOD Roles

Whilst TV faced some difficulties shutting down or delaying production of TV programs, video on demand blossomed. In the midst of the global pandemic, Netflix registered 201 million paid subscribers in September 2020 alone and Amazon registered around 117 million.

The global video on demand market is projected to grow from $82.77 billion in 2022 to $257.59 billion by 2029. This is partially due to the rise of use of smartphones, tablets, and smart TV’s.

Mobile devices in particular are a product that have seen a huge increase in usage numbers for consuming digital media, passing desktops in popularity. This is mainly due to their ease and ability to provide digital media 24/7 to consumers from anywhere and everywhere, on your morning commute, at the gym, or even download your favourite shows to watch during a flight.

Despite consumer needs changing, such as consumers increasingly expecting relevant TV and video content that can be accessed anytime, anywhere, and in the format that best suits their immediate needs, one thing that remains consistent is the demand for value and ease of use.

When asked what consumers would change about video on demand service, there was a mix of answers, the most common seemed to be around content - consumers wanted more choice, better quality content, older shows, newer shows etc.

Films were a particular area for improvement, with requests for newer releases. Price as well was another big factor, with many consumers questioning the value of their subscriptions.

Some examples of jobs available in TV and Video on Demand include:

  • Video Editor
  • Videographer
  • Video on demand project manager
  • Senior Producer – video on demand
  • Creative producer – TV and entertainer
  • Head of TV output
