Head of Mobile Engineering

I’m exclusively partnering with a high-growth consumer technology business looking for a Head of Mobile Engineering to lead and scale its mobile engineering function.
The company has built a mobile platform used by 35m+ people globally, with technology deeply integrated into the smartphone experience. They work with some of the world’s largest device manufacturers, mobile operators and technology platforms and have experienced significant international and commercial growth.
This is a broad engineering leadership position spanning technology, people, product and commercial strategy. You’ll lead multiple mobile engineering teams across Android and iOS, with Android sitting at the heart of the platform.
The role
- Lead and scale a multi-squad mobile engineering function across Android and iOS, currently comprising around 15 engineers and technical leads
- Own the mobile engineering strategy, organisational design and technical roadmap, working closely with the CTO, CEO and Product leadership
- Lead a complex Android ecosystem spanning native applications, SDKs, device integrations and system-level functionality
- Partner with major global technology companies, device manufacturers and mobile operators on new integrations and technical opportunities
- Remain close to architecture and engineering delivery while coaching Engineering Managers and technical leads and driving engineering excellence across the function
You
- Have a strong background in native Android engineering, ideally progressing from hands-on Android development into senior engineering leadership
- Have strong knowledge of Kotlin and Android architecture, including areas such as permissions, background execution, foreground services, SDKs and device/OEM-specific behaviour
- Have experience leading multiple engineering teams and developing Engineering Managers and/or technical leads
- Have worked on high-scale consumer mobile products and are comfortable balancing technical decisions with product, commercial and customer outcomes
- Are confident working with C-suite stakeholders and external partners, while remaining technically close enough to support architecture and complex engineering decisions
