Content & Copywriting

Content Marketing and Copywriting jobs come under the wider Marketing umbrella and can be both offline and online.

Content and Copywriting Roles

Content marketing jobs involve working individually, or as part of a team, to create content in all forms for a business. Depending on what social media channel is being used, this may include:

  • Pictures
  • Podcasts
  • Blogs
  • Videos

Copywriting jobs are similar to content marketing jobs, however, they focus more solely on the copy, this may include:

  • Blogs
  • Website landing pages
  • Ads
  • Emails

The aim of copywriters is to encourage, educate and inform consumers about the business through copy.

Especially the emergence of new platforms and updates to existing ones, the role of content creators in particular are consistently changing and you need to ensure that you are kept up to date with this.

Similar to other roles in social media, the progression path is rather straightforward. Entry level roles focus purely on creation, as you get promoted and gain more responsibility your job role shifts to incorporating more strategy. Salaries in content and copywriting careers start at around £24,000 for entry level and graduate positions with those with more than 10 years' of experience earning £72,000-£150,000+ depending on location and sector.

Landing a job in content creation and copywriting doesn’t usually require a degree, but having a bachelors degree in a field such as marketing, English, or a similar field can be helpful towards the role. Copywriters will need to have an excellent ability to write using the correct language and tone, as well as being creative to be able to produce engaging, capturing work.

Content creators will also need to be highly creative, less so in a written sense but bursting with ideas for photos, videos and other forms of content, however content creators will still need to ensure they can write engaging captions in the correct tone for the business and audience.

As with the majority of job roles, experience is a benefit, having completed an internship or work experience is a great addition to your CV, or demonstrating how you have created content or copy for personal use, such as having a blog, well run Instagram page or TikTok account is still a great addition and can help the employer see your abilities for themselves.
