Business Development
Business Development roles are in demand as new business is crucial to a company’s development and growth – no new clients leave businesses relying heavily on existing accounts which are not guaranteed.
Business Development Roles
Enterprise Sales or Business Development jobs see you developing new business directly with clients, as opposed to going through agencies or third parties. Depending on your level, you will have a mix of self-sourced and warm leads, you would be targeted with booking meetings with decision makers, then pitching your offering with a view to closing the deal.
These roles typically sit within a sales team, commercial team or a new business team. Career progression generally runs: from Business Development Representative or Inside Sales through to Mid-market Sales, then onto Enterprise Sales or Mid-market sales manager. Both routes can result in Commercial Director or VP Sales berths covering UK, US, APAC and/or other region.

More and more Ad Technology companies are looking at Direct Sales as a more viable option to dealing with Agencies as well so the scope for growth in that space is huge.
Marketing Tech vendors predominantly sell directly to clients and offer lots of opportunities for business development careers.
Account Management often comes hand in hand with Business Development jobs as it involves finding new, prospective customers and clients, and building a relationship with them, securing new partnerships. Typically, these types of roles don’t require deep technical knowledge but the brain power to grasp a company's top-line offerings is a must.
Business development roles and sales roles often cope with great scope for earning potential. Many packages are inclusive of between 50-100% commission on top, with a lot of businesses offering an uncapped earning potential.
