Freelance PR Account Director

We're looking for an experienced Freelance PR Account Director to support a busy agency team across a range of consumer and corporate communications work.

This role would suit someone who is confident leading accounts, managing senior client relationships and overseeing press office activity, while still being happy to stay close to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day delivery across key PR accounts and projects

  • Manage senior client relationships and provide strategic counsel

  • Oversee proactive and reactive press office activity

  • Develop PR strategies, campaign plans and communications recommendations

  • Identify strong media angles and opportunities across relevant sectors

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors and key UK media contacts

  • Lead media outreach and secure high-quality coverage, interviews and features

  • Write and review press releases, media briefs, talking points, Q&As and other communications materials

  • Brief spokespeople, talent and senior stakeholders ahead of media opportunities

  • Manage account teams, delegate effectively and provide senior oversight across delivery

  • Work closely with creative, social, influencer and strategy teams where relevant

  • Manage project timelines, budgets and account priorities

  • Oversee reporting and evaluation of PR activity

  • Support new business, pitches and larger integrated campaign projects where required

Experience Required

  • Strong experience within PR and communications, ideally within an agency environment

  • Proven experience operating at Account Director level or equivalent

  • Strong knowledge of the UK media landscape and established media relationships

  • Experience leading press office activity and handling high volumes of reactive media enquiries

  • Confident managing senior clients and stakeholders

  • Strong writing, editing and media relations skills

  • Experience managing and mentoring junior team members

  • Able to balance strategic thinking with hands-on account delivery

  • Comfortable working across fast-paced accounts and multiple priorities

  • Experience across consumer, corporate or integrated communications is highly desirable

Ideal Profile

You'll be a confident, calm and commercially minded PR professional with strong media instincts and excellent client-handling skills. You should be comfortable providing senior strategic direction while remaining hands-on with press office activity and campaign delivery.
